Rongelap pictures

Sorry for the long wait on pictures.  We're sitting in a tiny little room next to a big dish using the only computer on the island with bugs crawling on me...all for you :).  Here are some pictures we've taken over the last week here on Rongelap.  Enjoy!

The Giant clams are EVERYWHERE...all different beautiful colors.

It's amazing how much trash comes onto the beach from the
ocean.

The Rongelap Airport

The church has been here since the 70's...notice our boat in the background?

These are the houses being built for the folks coming back to the island.

Andy surprised a pig...

Bungalows for visitors.

The only other kid on the island...I wonder who his stylist is?

View from our front porch

We found the left over of a rocket on the beach.  Andy thinks it might
be the Pegasus Booster rocket.  Anyone with some time?  Look it up?

More pieces of the rocket.

Jake still loves a good bonfire.

We'll leave here in a few days after this wind blows over and head to Bikini Atoll.  I'm not sure about the communication there so we'll be pictureless for a while...hopefully this will hold you all for a bit.

Hi Guys,

Love the photos and sounds interesting there. I (Evan) have a job starting in Brisbane soon so we will be here for awhile. Yes, it looks like a Pegasus booster and Wiki says they launched from Kwaejin (sp) sometimes.

Monica,
I saw this article and immediately thought of Jake http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/08/14/pay-with-the-force-polynesian-island-nation-mints-star-wars-currency/

If you go that way and get your hands on any, send some to Zach. He's never seen the movies but he's crazy about it all anyhow. Fair winds to you and take care!

We love seeing the pictures and that giant clam....stunning. Hopefully it, and the rest, fair well when everyone moves back home! Ethan wants you to know he's pea green since you are doing the sail of his life...so good on you for that and for making him actually feel envy (which he seldom does)! We sure love seeing the pictures, thank you, and love the one of Jakey with the big tall bonfire stick. Love it. Love you 3. xoxo N

Yup, that is a Pegasus rocket first stage booster you found on the beach. It would be interesting to know when and where and if there are any identifying marks to indicate which mission it was from...
